Chandeliers are the order of the day in a formal dining area and may add an eclectic touch to more informal space, but if mixing styles isn’t your thing, consider alternatives. Replace the chandelier and only a more informal fixture. A lamp with a material shade that looks like it came from a factory adds an industrial feel, while pendant lamps fashioned from mason jars give the available room a primitive vibe. Overhead lighting isn’t your only choice. Situating floor lights near the table illuminates it and the immediate area, and table lamps placed on a sideboard create ambient light.
Group similar portions in clusters, such as a group of Asian tea cups, or a few mismatched vases to make them look like a deliberate collection rather than hodgepodge of unrelated items positioned haphazardly.
